Snowbound
This is Snowbound, from my book Moods, published in 1980. I photographed it in 1979 at a frozen waterfall in New Hope, Pennsylvania.
The idea came to me spontaneously after seeing the location, but I knew I did not want the model simply standing nude in the snow. I wanted something that would carry the movement and softness of the landscape while still revealing the body in a subtle way. What I needed was fabric that would flow like the snow itself and remain sheer enough to preserve that feeling.
The solution was not exactly planned, I borrowed sheer curtains from the windows of the old inn where we were staying that evening. With that, and with a model willing to stand barefoot in freezing conditions, everything came together. Yes, I returned the curtains.
