"This narrative photographic book takes you on an inspiring journey through the evolution of Robert Farber’s unique 50-year career.

Entirely self-taught and never an assistant, Farber began by selling his photography on the streets of New York, paving the way for an unconventional career that redefined the boundaries between fine art and commercial photography. Farber’s rise began with his first book in 1976, featuring fine art nudes, which propelled his parallel success in fashion and beauty photography. He shot covers for GQ, women’s fashion for leading magazines, beauty campaigns for Revlon, Pond’s, many fragrance brands, as well as fashion advertisements for Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale’s.

Farber’s work with nudes, both in the fine art and commercial realms, is widely known and respected. Yet, he faced challenges navigating controversial issues in his exhibitions and international advertising campaigns. His collaboration with Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who brought him to Doubleday to publish his By the Sea book, marked a significant milestone in his career. Notably, his book Farber Nudes was included in her private estate collection and later auctioned at Sotheby’s, adding to  its importance in fine art photography.

This volume highlights his Classic Fashion and the Deterioration Series, two bodies of work that blur the lines between commercial and fine art and complement each other in galleries and exhibitions. The first in a series, this book will be followed by explorations of Farber’s other works including Americana, New York, Vintage Polaroids, Women as Art, By the Sea, The Wet Series, and more. Explore this visual narrative of Robert Farber’s 50-year career.

With a style that crosses multiple genres, this book gives insight into a journey that inspires and redefines photography. Discover how his commercial work, indistinguishable from fine art, has earned its place in galleries, museums, and collections worldwide."
